Hi Folks
Following the outstanding success of the Gymanfa Ganu at St Peter’s – with the church overflowing and $1500 raised for Allowah Children’s Hospital – the question is can Cantorion Sydney do it again?
You can find out at Y Gymanfa, another Welsh singing festival, at St Michael's Church, Vaucluse a 6 p.m. tomorrow Sunday 11 July.
The superb soprano Angela Brun – who “stole the show” at St Peter’s – will again sing How Great Thou Art and the Welsh Ave Maria, accompanied by the choir.
The congregation and choir will join forces for great Welsh hymns, including Diadem, Hyffrydol, Llanfair, Joanna and Cwm Rhondda.
But that’s not all! Roll up and you’ll also revel in Calon Lan, Crimond, Tibie Pajom, Gospodi, Cartref and Gwahoddiad. For more information please contact Dr John Lloyd, Music Director of Cantorion Sydney on (02) 9979 5584 or 0414 225 513. Or give me a ring....

Eisteddfod Mimosa
EISTEDDFOD MIMOSA PORTH MADRYN

De Trelew participarán Escuela Nº 182, I.S.F.D.A. Nº 805, Coro Universitario de Trelew. De Gaiman: Escuela de Música, “Ysgol Feithrin” (Jardín Galés). De Rawson “Rawsonando”.
PRELIMINARES

FUN IN THE SUN AT THE CELTIC FESTIVAL!
Members and supporters of Cymdeithas Cymry Sydney are invited - once again - to enjoy a spectacular day out at the CELTIC AUSTRALIA DAY FESTIVAL on Tuesday 26 January 2010.

Each year the Celts gather to celebrate Australia Day at the hugely convenient Bradfield Park, Milsons Point - right under the Harbour Bridge.

There'll be fun for all the family throughout the day with stalls, entertainment and highlights such as the aerial display by RAAF Hawk 127s and a magnificent view of the finish of the Tall Ships Race.

The program - which opens with Highland dancing at 9 a.,m. - will feature songs performed by Sydney Welsh Choir at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., pipe bands, Irish Ceili dancers, Scottish fiddlers and a ceremonial salute.

Bradfield Park is also the ideal vantage point to see the Ferrython' Sprint finish under the Harbour Bridge at 11.45 a.m. and the awesome Red Berets splash at Circular Quay at 3 p.m.

As ever, a team from Sydney Welsh Society will be there!

We'll be running the Society's stall throughout the day -- so bring a rug, sit in the shade, watch the performances and enjoy your picnic, including Welsh cakes and bara brith on sale from noon.

There will also be specialist food stalls with ice-creams for the kids, beverages, and Celtic products such as kilts, bridal gowns, clothing and tartans, souvenirs, jewellry, books and recordings, clan family, genealogy and other information stalls.

And yes! Welsh jewellry, gifts and souvenirs, coal and slate products, lovespoons, tea towels and cards will be on sale!
You can reach Bradfield Park - under the Harbour Bridge - by bus, ferry or rail to Milsons Point.

John Webb

To all Celts and supporters of the Celtic community:

The life of Beuno, the 7th century Welsh holy man who became one of the best known early Celtic saints, will be celebrated in Sydney on Sunday 18 April.

A concert featuring songs, anthems and ballads from Ireland, Scotland and Wales – plus music from France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Russia – will be held at St Peter’s Church, just 50 metres from North Sydney railway station.

Cantorion Sydney, the male voice choir conducted by Music Director Dr John Lloyd from North Wales, will sing from 2 p.m. While a few of the choir members are Welsh-born, most of the singers hail from other parts of the world, including Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, India, France, Italy, Serbia, Russia and, of course, Australia.

The concert will also showcase the remarkable talents of soprano Angela Brun and her husband, the tenor Julian Brun.

The music will include Mull of Kintyre, the Rose of Tralee, Danny Boy, Panis Angelica, Bortnianski’s Ich Bete An, La Vergine degli Angeli, Gospodi, Tibie Pajom, A La Nanita Nana, Schubert’s marvelous Ständchen, Signore delle Cime and Welsh favourites such as Calon Lan, Nant y Mynydd, Cartref, Sospan Fach and Men of Harlech.

It’s that time again! Another spectacular Gymanfa Ganu to celebrate Wales, Welshness, the Welsh and, most importantly, our wonderful, wonderful music!
This traditional festival of song starts at the Welsh Church – St Peter’s Presbyterian – Blues Point Road, North Sydney at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday 27 June. (Newcomers, please note the church is just 40 metres from North Sydney Railway Station).
The singing will be led by Margaret Hughes from Aberdare in South Wales, acclaimed both in her home town and in Swansea as a conductor of the Gymanfa. The foundation Music Director of Sydney Welsh Choir nearly 30 years ago, Margaret was often the choral director of the Gymanfa in the beautiful old Sydney Welsh Church in Chalmers Street. You can bet she will hold both the congregation and Cantorion Sydney male voice choir to account when we gather to celebrate the great Welsh hymns on 27 June!
So what’s the program?
Presented by the Sydney Welsh Church and Sydney Welsh Society, the Gymanfa will feature splendid hymns such as Diadem, Blaenwern, Groeswern, Llanfair, Mae D’siau Di, Crimond, Softly and Tenderly, How Great Thou Art, Joanna, Aberystwyth, Calon Lan and Cwm Rhondda. In addition, the choir will sing Gwahoddiad, Grosser Gott and Gospodi (Hear Lord), as well as a number of songs accompanying, the choir’s magnificent resident soprano Angela Brun. You will find yourself fighting to hold back the tears when Angela sings Cartef and the Welsh version of Ave Maria.

Please note that while admission is free, we will be asking for donations to assist the Allowah Children’s Hospital.

Don’t forget, you’re also invited to join us for a cuppa and cakes following the Gymanfa – plenty of time to catch up with old friends and make new ones!

If you need more information please contact Sion Llywd, Music Director of Cantorion Sydney and organiser of the Gymanfa Ganu, on (02) 9979 5584 or 0414 225 512.
