Cantorion Sydney Male Voice Choir
Cantorion Sydney Male Voice Choir
Cantorion Sydney confines its repertoire to classical, folk
and sacred music. It sings works from many ethnic sources
that have a male voice choral tradition. The Choir brings
to Sydney expressions of the rich choral traditions of European
music.
The Choir has sung at numerous music festivals including
Welsh gymanfas and German singfests .It has sung at weddings,
dinners and conferences. The Cantorion Sydney has given concerts
along with the Waverley Brass Ensemble, with the Sydney Male
Voice Choir and with the Harp Divas.
The Choir has raised thousands of dollars for charitable
purposes.
There are, in the Choir, singers from many countries including,
America, Australia, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Ireland,
Italy, Russia, Scotland, Serbia and Wales.
The men in the Choir are proud of their ethnicity and enjoy
sharing their country's music and language.
The Choir is not associated with any religious following
but practises each Wednesday evening in the Welsh Church of
Sydney, St Peters Presbyterian Church, at the top of Blues
Point Road, close to the North Sydney Railway Station.
Here there are fine instruments for accompanying and the
acoustics are kind.
Music direction is in the hands of Dr Sion Llwyd MMus and
Rachel Harding MMus.

Sydney Welsh Choir (Male and Female)
The Sydney Welsh Choir began in 1978 as an extension of the late Sydney
Welsh Rugby Club. Over the years it has grown into a substantial
independent choir of more than fifty men and women, drawn from all
parts of the Sydney area. Not all choir members were born in Wales;
some have Welsh family links while others simply like being part of a
group, which sings with such evident enjoyment and enthusiasm. Their
concert schedule is demanding with performances most weekends.
Late last year the Sydney Welsh choir enjoyed an action packed fifth
tour back to Wales since 1990, with concerts in Italy, Switzerland,
Germany, Belgium and England en route. There were many spectacular
tourist highlights for the 89 members of the party and many wonderful
performance venues. These included Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, the
Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, St Kastor's Basilica in Koblenz, York
Minster and Winchester Cathedral in England, and St Davids Cathedral
and Brecon Cathedral in Wales.
While in Wales, the choir gave concerts with the Haverfordwest Male
Voice Choir and the Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir, and short
recitals at the new National Assembly building and the Wales Millennium
Centre next door.
